To add on to what Vanessa wrote, you can either
(1) Leave the domain registered with the current registrar, copy your
friend's files on to the Poznet servers and then get the registrar to point
the domain to the new server, or
(2) Transfer everything to Poznet (domain registration, server space, the
lot). I did this when I transferred from my last (terrible) hosting company
and was glad that I did. The previous company kept refusing to point to the
new server (the site was down for days) and Poznet sorted it all out for me.
A short rant on cPanel - they really need to do some usability improvements
with that product. It's not so easy for newbies to figure out the
differences between "Addon domain", "sub domain" and "parked domain" and the
cPanel documentation is not good. A hint for you - when you are adding an
"addon domain" (like your friend's site) you will put that site in its own
directory on the server. cPanel creates the necessary subdomain for you when
it is adding the domain - you don't need to do it yourself.
Good luck with your hosting company decision.
